Definition
A National Securities Identifying Number or NSIN is a generic 9-digit alpha numeric code which identifies a fungible security. The NSIN is issued by a national numbering agency (NNA) designated for that country. NSINs are used as part of the makeup of a product's International Securities Identifying Number or ISIN.

Additional Information
NNA's are coordinated through the Association of National Numbering Agencies or Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA).ISIN information can be accessed through the ANNA Service Bureau, run by Standard and Poor's and SIX Financial Information. In those countries where no NNA is in operation, four NNAs have agreed, on a regional basis, to act as a substitute agency.
