The mission of the Financial Crimes Enforcement network (FinCEN) is to enhance US national security, deter and detect criminal and terrorist activity, and safeguard financial systems from abuse by promoting transparency in the US and international financial systems.

Key Facts
FinCEN exercises regulatory functions primarily under the Currency and Financial Transactions Reporting Act of 1970, as amended by Title III of the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001 and other legislation, notably the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), the Federal anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing statute.
