THOMSON FINANCIAL SECURITIES DATA’S WORLDWIDE M&A DATABASE NOW AVAILABLE VIA DATA DOWNLINK’S .XLS SERVICE

Boston, MA, August 31, 1999 -- Thomson Financial Securities Data (TFSD) today announced an agreement to license its Worldwide Mergers & Acquisitions, Joint Ventures & Alliances, and Common Stock databases to Data Downlink Corporation.

The databases will be available as of today via Data Downlink’s web-based information service, .xls (www.xls.com).

TFSD’s Worldwide Mergers & Acquisitions database covers all types of private and public company transactions dating back to 1980. Users can select from a variety of TFSD’s traditional Standard Reports, or create their own Custom Reports from data fields that include deal terms, synopsis, financials, stock premiums, financial and legal advisor assignments and fees, as well as a host of information on the target and acquiring companies. Joint Ventures & Alliances and Common Stock are slated for release by year-end.

"The integration of TFSD’s mergers and acquisitions data into our .xls service will significantly enhance our customers’ ability to analyze global corporate transactions," said Steve Goldstein, founder and CEO of Data Downlink. "TFSD’s comprehensive, high-quality worldwide database will be a key resource within the .xls service." Mr. Goldstein noted that Data Downlink’s relational database and web technology will allow users of the service to quickly search for and download TFSD’s M&A data and reports directly into Microsoft Excel.

"We’re pleased to partner with Data Downlink to offer their end-users our most widely-utilized databases," commented Lynne Augustine, director of business development for Distributor Relations at TFSD. "The unique capabilities of .xls provide excellent tools for building searches and generating reports from our databases."
